    why is it important to preserve wetlands

    The wetlands are to land as an estuary is to the sea.  It is the nursery and breeding ground for many organisms.  It is also a barometer to the health of the planet for that same reason.  Sick wetlands mean poor quality of all those populations which depend upon the wetland for their existence.  Our water table is also effected by the condition of the wetlands, as often they are one and the same.
