It's an acronym for the spectrum of colours but it's wrong, it should be "Richard of York gave BATTLE in vain".

ROMOS - correct about the colour spectrum of the rainbow but not an acronym well yes about the first letters but is called what when the first letters of the word mean something you wish to remember?
ROMOS - oh dear got it wrong again you are right mnemonic - it's that medical thing in me again. I also got the phrase wrong - yes it should be BATTLE.Thankyou.
