Yes, if it get too humid in attic, from improperly venting, or leaky roof. And it should be replaced, as it will spread, and contaminate home. Back in the 70's the building codes allowed bathroom or kitchen vents to go into attic, and it was not proper, as air was adding moisture, and now codes require direct venting from home to the outside.
