In the UK it's "stepfather" by name only, if he officially adopts her though then and only then would he have the same rights as her biological father.

i think if your daughter and g/daughter live with the new husband then he becomes the stepfather, this does not affect the rights of the biological father.the best way is for all to try and get on.

My "step father" raised me and was my dad. My natural father was in the picture only when he thought about it.  I lost my dad a week ago.... Parenthood is a matter of the heart....

I am curious to know what your daughter thinks about this situation. Does she also think that her 10 year old "has a good father"?  Is SHE concerned about dad, losing his parental rights? Also, you say "we", so I wonder who is involved in this. Wouldn't this be something that will be handled by daughter, ex-husband and new husband?

For a step father to get custody of a child, the court needs to be involved.  Sometimes mothers and kids are just lucky and a good dad comes along without the court getting involved. Once in a while ......
