Seems as if somebody installed a service pin in the release handle at some point in time and failed to completely remove it. Anyway you can verify this by looking down beside the drivers seat into the release mechanism and see if you notice a pin lodged next to the release mechanism, I had to remove the drivers seat to actually get a good look at it. But it was there. All I did was remove it. It took about an hour total. Good luck.
