When the penny is gone what happens to the .9 cents charged on a liter of gasoline ?

The price of gasoline will stay at .9 as it has nothing to do with the elimination of the penny. Your "final total only", is where the rounding up or down takes place. If your TOTAL bill comes to, for example, $22.03, it will be rounded up to $22.05. If your TOTAL bill comes to, for example, $22.07, it will be rounded down to $22.05. The whole process happens with the cashier, and only with a "cash money" transaction. It eliminates the need for a penny exchange on either side as it no longer (technically) exists. A credit card transaction, changes NOTHING, as it does not involve an exchange of the penny.

Many people mistakenly believe, that the individual price of every item, will be rounded up or down. This is incorrect unless the manufacturer decides to "take advantage" of the fact that this is being rumored.
