    You might try Zopa or Funding Circle. These companies borrow from individuals and lend to other individuals or companies. You can get about 5.5% but a bank will give you around 2.5% although the risks will be less.


     Some shares will give you up to 5-6% for example Tesco, Sainsbury and Vodaphone, with the possibility of capital growth (or loss).

    ISAs are the safest bet.
