outside on your clothesline. Or, on the basement clothesline .

And there are retractable clothes lines.  They are encased in a metal tube, similar to the old movie screen rolls, however, inside is a series of maybe 6 lines.  You mount the roll on the house, garage, etc. and install a pole, or use a hook on a tree, etc. opposite the roll.  You simply extend the lines, and hook it to the pole, use to dry clothes, when done, retract it and no eye sore of the lines in the yard.  Excellent for small yards, where the lines would be in way of kids playing, etc.

If you have a dog run outside when the dogs are not on the line, you can hang the clothes there.
