Ms Petite, no firearm is best for you regardless of size of weapon or you if you don't know how to use it. Owning a gun does not make you proficient in the use of it. I would suggest that you take a course in gun handling and defense with a weapon. The experts there will show you the way and the right weapon for you.

For home security I have a Mosberge 500A pump action 12 gauge shout gun.. There is no sound in the world that is going to deter someone more... LOL you dont even have to load it. But you before you buy you do need safty cousre and range time.. You will feel more comfortable around the gun.. I wont let on in my house I havent learned to break down in the dark.

Depends on how much experience you have with firearms.
Go to a reputable gun shop, if you can't find one or know anyone who does contact the NRA or your local law enforcement, take gun safety classes FIRST!! Have the experts decide what YOU as the shooter can safely handle

Iwouldnt go there,it could cause you more grief than what it is intended for.Getting caught with a firearm can pose a gaol term let alone if you had to use it.Try getting hold of some mace or capsicum spray( as its known in Australia) and feel contented in the knowledge that you at least have that on hand as protection.Actually you can be in trouble if your caught with that as well,but i would rather be caught with that than a gun.

dear pythonlover: thanku for taking the time to help answer my question. btw,i too love pythons. back to guns.....the gun is to have at home,strictly for protection. i have taken the right measures,called the nra and had some training,,although im eager and anxious to learn more and thus feel more secure with it ,with myself and it with myself... i dont believe in violence. unfortuneately there are many many many people who do and who do not value human life. ive had 3 close relatives including my father ,murdered, local police took my mace(which was ten yrs old and more than half empty)after a routine stop that occured within 3 weeks of my cousins murder (reason i was carrying it to begin with). they charged me with posession of a terrorist weapon. because of that and a whole lotta things a handful of crooked cops in the (spd)who i cannot and do not trust i feel better and sleep a lil bit better at nite.. i wish it didnt take measures like this,but in this world we have to do things sometimes that we wish we didnt have too. including protecting myself and my family to the fullest extent from intruders. god bless....
