Yes Hip Dyspepsia is very common with many breeds including German Shepard dogs. There is a test that you can do,restrain the dog, hold the rear leg and flex it forwards and backwards, while holding at the hip joint. You will feel a pop and a click noise. This may also make the dog wince with pain, it is seen on an x-ray, but this is a good field test for it. See the vet if it seems like this is the problem.
