Can I lay a mosaic tile floor over an already existing tile floor?

I want to lay a basalt  mosaic tile floor in my kitchen (which has asbestos tiles) and continue into my dining room (which has an already existing tile floor). There is about an 1/8" difference between the two floors (one leading into the other). What is the best prep before I begin?

You shoudn't lay mosaic tiles over Vinyl/Asbestos tiles, there is a good chance they will all lift after a while. You should take the existng tiles up, however, if they do contain asbestos they should be double wrapped and disposed of properly, this will cost you money. You need to contact your local council to find out where they can be disposed of. And whoever takes them up should where a good quality mask. Be very careful I used to lay these old tiles, and have taken them up many times over the years, someone I worked with for many years died three years ago from asbestos poisoning, it only takes a little speck to get inside your lungs or stomach.
