      A vacuum cleaner repairman told me Kirby is the best...lasts the longest and has the fewest repairs. The Dyson, he said, is great except...many parts are made out of plastic, they break and he has to create metal parts for them, so they won't keep falling apart. For the quality (or lack thereof), he said, Dyson is way overpriced and he never recommends it.

        He's been doing repairs for over 20 years, so those are the people who probably steer you in the right direction, I think.
