There are several types of clouds.
Low Clouds: Stratus
Middle Clouds: Altostratus
High Clouds: Cirrus
Clouds with Vertical Development: Cumulus
Cumuls are the lowest clouds --rather than stratus which is basically ground fog. Cumulus clouds or 'fair weather clouds' will form at 5,000 feet and sometimes lower.
Cirrus clouds are the highest mostly ice formations and usually straight edged. Very high! and cold!
