      Sounds like a internal transmission problem. When you shift into gear, the rails move the shift forks which control a sychronizer which allows you to shift gears. Something internally is broken, he downshifted too early and damaged your transmission/transaxle.

      Check nothing has fallen under the protector cover..

        lol.you need to have your tranny rebuilt or just get a rebuilt one.probably cheaper that way
