You say you have dots. Are these WHITE dots and many many of them?? Is it a Samsung by chance? If so its the DLP Chip. Its not too hard to replace. I did it and never had the back of a tv off to see inside. I went to you tube and got a general idea of how to do it. It was very helpful. Good luck.
