    mars like all the planets has a non circular orbit so the distances changes,the furthest from the sun (aphelion) is 249,209,300km and the nearest (perihelion)is 206,669,000km.


    earth is the same(aph)152,098,232km,.(peri)147,098,290km.


    so to find the distance from the earth to mars you need to subtract the distance from earth to the sun from the distance from mars to the sun,this will give the distance from earth to mars.to be accurate you need to know the position of both mars and the earth in there respective orbital positions.
