    I have had this position for three years and someone else is stepping up into my job as director.

        Begin by thanking everyone there who contributed to your career. Then, tell them everything positive that you learned and enjoyed on the job. Always keep the back door open when you leave a job , no matter what the circumstances. Never burn your bridges behind you.
