I agree with jhharlan. It could also be that his litterbox needs to be cleaned more often, or perhabs he doesnt like where the litterbox is and you should try to move it in a different place where it is quiet and see what happens.

Fill a squirt bottle with water and squirt him when you catch him doing it.....

my male cat, Tigger couldn't care less if you spray him with a mist of water. It didn't deter him from getting on the kitchen table when he was young. So I put vinegar in a spray bottle. Never sprayed it on him,.....but near him......and he never got on the table again.

Cat's don't like to be alone for long periods of time and they don't like to be ignored.  They don't like dogs sniffing around their litter boxes and they like a bit of privacy when they use the box.  They are clean freaks so they like clean litter boxes.  It is highly unusual for a cat to chose a stove as a litter box.  Try some of the other suggestions people have given but don't rule out a trip to the vets.

What the heck are you cooking on your stove to have a cat peeing on it? Cats will mark their territory but What is up?

Also fill the bottle with a bit of ammonia in the water, it will offend the cat more than just the plain water, and make more of a point of it being no fun to do this.  If it persists, convert said cat to an outside cat, that is what I would do, no cat of mine would pee on my stove, twice!

What if the ammonia water gets into the cat's eyes? Will it damage his eyes?

Not if it is a very weak solution, or you can use vinegar, if you fear that...

Try putting weak ammonia or vinegar in your eyes. No, I do not agree with torture. The cat probably has a UTI and an unaware owner who does nor know how to care for an animal that can not speak.

Ammonia, that sounds a bit cuel what do you want to do blind him.

just a couple of drops diluted in a sprayer of water will not blind him...

Why even put it in? Seriously, some states would arrest a person for animal abuse if they did that. There's no reason at all to add ammonia or vinegar to water and shoot it in a cats eyes. NONE. Did you torture animals as a child?

no I did not, and I didn't say to shoot them in the eyes.. Go ahead and let the cat piss on your stove if you want, or let him prance across your counter (after playing in the litter box), not for me!

Not my cat. Not my stove. Squirting either mixture at a cat is taking the chance it will get into it's eyes. Apparently you are not getting the fact that it can be abusive as it would be painful. I'm surprised you do not see this as you typically show a lot of common sense in your answers.

    Turn the stove on.

put boxes on it but when you cook just lock your cat up

put aluminum foil on top of the stove.

Leave the stov on for a couple of days. It'll be too hot for him/het to get on it. Maybe it'll get the hint.

WOW!...You mean just like you would for toddlers and kids?:(...I hope you`ve got your vet on hand to deal with your cat`s burns!...I wouldn`t advise anyone to do anything so stupid..What are you thinking??:(

Look for the reason he's doing it, are there other cats in the house ? is his tray/litterbox clean?  cats are fussy creatures so there is some reason for this problem. You could try orange peel cats don't go anywhere near oranges they don't like the smell at all.

    Or pepper:-)
