    Yes the non-aqueous paints were generally called the "oil based" solvent paints.  Now that the US has phased out oil based products, we have "modified oil", which as essentially "water based".  So in the US, it is now near impossible to get true "oil based" products, such as from the past, requiring solvents like turpentine, or mineral spirits (thinners).  I hope that this clears things up a bit!

    Aqueious paint is a paint that is diluted with water (unlike other paints, which are diluted with solvents such as acetone).
