The cold one....the water will more quickly get down to the freezing point since it is already ahead of (temperature wise) the hot one.

Nope. One would think so about the cold water but it's true that hot water freezes faster. No one knows for sure why so it's called a phenomenon. :)
Only when the Mpemba effect has taken place and that doesn't always happen. So, I conclude therefore, that SOMETIMES the cold freezes faster and SOMETIMES the hot freezes faster!
