    why is service a necessary aspect of citizenship, and how much service is appropriately expected of community members?

    In a society, there is what's called, civic duty. Each citizen is expected to exercise their right to vote, to pay taxes and to do jury duty. It is expected but not mandated that they report a crime that they witness and to be a helpful citizen whenever and wherever possible.
