Apparently some Wise old person, because God won't do much for you if you do nothing. However God helps the helpless! Isaiah 25:4 . Actuality, it originated from Algernon Sydney in 1698 in an article titled Discourses Concerning Government.

I think Randy has the author, I actually use this expression when giving advice to friends. Through my experience God doesn't just drop something your hoping and praying for out of the sky and onto your lap. Although that may very rarely occur, I have found that God rewards those who go out and do the legwork. You have to make an effort and try to fix the problem most, if not all the time.

If you just sit back and wait for good things to happen, they may never happen. Most everything worth anything, takes hard work. I don't know who said that one, but I agree it completely. Good answers up there!
