South Carolinians can’t vote early in this year’s presidential election, but that might not be the case for long. Nearly 40 percent of voters across America are expected cast their ballots before Election Day, but 18 states, including South Carolina, still prohibit the practice of early voting.
According to The State, South Carolina’s General Assembly has previously voted down laws that would allow people to vote early, but some members might change their minds on the practice now that a federal court has OK’d a new voter ID law.
It is unclear when a new early voting bill would be introduced, but The State posits that a law could be in place by 2016.
