      The shingles vaccine is not recommended to treat active shingles or post-herpetic neuralgia (pain after the rash is gone) once it develops. http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/shingles/vacc-need-know.htm

        I had shingles and almost lost an eye I'm only 54 an was told you
        cannot get the vaccine until age 60. My pharmacy told me.
