living vicariously through someone else simply means living through someone else.
example, a mother always wanted to become a singer but never had the voice for it, her daughter on the other hand has a great voice. The mother encourages the daughter to pursue a singing career (although the daughter hates singing) in order to live her life's dream through her daughter
I guess living vicariously through oneself means living your ideal life internally while externally you conform to society's reality for your life........
