Google chrome uses Google adsense on webpages. If the pop ups are only appearing if your mouse scrolls over a highlighted word, there's nothing you can do to stop that. If they are real pop ups, then you can stop them by initiating your pop up blocker. 

1. Click wrench icon (far right side of your browser)
2. go down to the one that says "options"
3. go to "under the hood" tab
4. under "privacy" click "content settings"
5. click "pop-ups" on the side
6. choose to block pop ups

Google also offers an add on to improve blocking pop ups. You can add it to your browser by going here and clicking the add button https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/better-pop-up-blocker/nmpeeekfhbmikbdhlpjbfmnpgcbeggic
