Acute diarrhea usually has a bacterial or viral culprit. Gastroenteritis, mistakenly called the "stomach flu," is one of the most common infections that cause diarrhea. Gastroenteritis can be caused by many different viruses. Eating or drinking foods contaminated with bacteria can also cause diarrhea. Other causes of acute diarrhea are lactose intolerance, sweeteners such as sorbitol, over-the-counter antacids that contain magnesium, too much vitamin C, and some antibiotics.

Better to consult a doctor if the diarrhea continues.

Also gluten intolerance (quite popular with me right now, as you might have noticed) :)

Yep I agree..bacteria usually the most common cause...but if it continues then you must see a Doctor for advice/further investigation..Drink plenty of H2O...clear fluids itmt and electrolyte (Sodium and Potassium)replacements(Eg Diarralyte from pharmacy)..to maintain adequate hydration and to prevent electolyte imbalance ..which is serious for maintaining heart function)...PLEASE see G.P!!

Sadly, I've never heard of any GP who diagnosed "gluten intolerance". They simply don't know anything about it, nor do they want to hear/read anything about it, though there is a ton of information out there. They will not accept a "dietary cure" as they are prescription oriented. Imodium was all that I was ever offered. As gluten is gone, so is the diarrhea, and I am not alone.

ducky,,yep..that`s really bad..if they can`t diagnose and treat you..they should look into other options..ie reffing you to an allergy clinic..would be not an unreasonable idea!!(imo)!
