First question Are they antique? If they are-DO NOT CLEAN THEM with anything but water, or just a damp rag! There is a patina which gives the piece the intended beauty and you will ruin the value to a collector (or even for yourself). If you insist on "cleaning" them use the mildest soap possible, maybe hand soap, with a soft toothbrush, and gently brush them to clean. Rinse with clear water, nothing else needed. You may use the brush on the antique ones if easy, with only water.

I think the advice to use only water and a soft toothbrush (with mild soap if necessary) on my antique brass ornaments is wise, but unfortunately they have been cleaned with metal polish for years now and it is extremely difficult to remove the ugly traces of this from crevices (the ornaments are tiny Indian figures). I shall try pipe cleaners!
