        One but some can be manipulated into laying more but this will take it's toll on the hen and she will either reach the end of her egg laying sooner or simply perish from over producing.

            I have 3 hens.  Each lays 1 egg/day, except when they molt.  All 3 are molting and start to molt late October.  This condition can last from 3-4 months.  However, one of my birds is still laying 1 egg/day even though she is in molt.  She didn't do this last year but to answer your question, unless they are caged and fed laying formula only, a happy, well-cared for bird that is free-range most probably lays 1 egg per day.
