    what makes water leak from the air coditioner units vents

    i had a new unit installed in my home it doesn't really cool and the vents are now leaking whenever we turn the unit on

    Condensation !!

    yes it is condensation, air conditioners also "dehumidify" so that is moisture that was in your home atmosphere.  When that warm wet air hits the condenser, the moisture condenses on the unit, if you have a window unit, tilt it a bit so that the water will drain out of the bottom of the unit outside your house.  If not, you will always have a mess to clean, and the wood of the window will rot. 

    The unit must be tilted to drain water. Also maybe your unit is not big enough(BTU'S) to handle what you are asking of it!  Try closing off more rooms. Ours did this and we had to add another unit in another room!
