WHEN A "TEAM" WINS OLYMPIC GOLD METALS, DOES IT COUNT AS ONE METAL FOR THAT COUNTRY?

I've been watching the Olympic metal count since the games began and at last count the US led China by 12 or 13 overall metals. For instance, if the women's basketball teams wins gold, does every womans gold metal count toward the overall metal total?

I believe only 1 metal that counts. That's why it's say, "team USA". The team wins one metal for the USA but each get a personal metal to have for their own.

Each member of the team receive a gold medal but the count is only one additional gold medal for that country

Most events reward the top 3 athletes or teams. Each counts as 1 medal to their respective country. Some events reward the top 4, whereby the bottom two EACH get a bronze. In such an event, 4 medals get added to the nations' totals.

OK, so the women's basketball team won the gold today. Do they get 1 Gold Metal added to the US (as a country) now?
If yes, that means the United States has pulled ahead of China winning more events then them ANYWAY. Great.
