It isn't, but life would be lessened considerably as it provides a vehicle to attach memories to, soothes and enhances moods, creates excitement that silence is just incapable of, and expands feelings of well-being, along with providing a lifelong quest for creative sound and words that speak to both the musician and listener.

Music definitely makes us feel good and relaxed. Anything that can successfully take a bit of pressure and tension off our minds , must be good.

The drumming beat of the oceans matches the beats of our hearts so it comes naturally that we would create music to match this beating...the drums' beat pulls people together as a tribe or group and becomes a way of connecting with each other...a sort of tuning of ourselves with the great mother Earth.

Music soothes the savage beast. Seriously , if my cats are all meowing and bugging me and I don't know what they want, I put some pretty music on and they settle right down. It also helps sick people to heal and be happier, and it helps surgical patients to not need so much pain meds and to get well quicker. Sorry this is a paragraph, but it's worth mentioning these factors.

    sunnyB

Mt cats love music as long as it's not too loud. I play the piano and clarinet, but when I play the piano they both sit near me and relax, but when I play the clarinet they make for the door. I think they find the tone of the clarinet a bit difficult for them. They love the radio on, in fact we leave it on for them when we go out.

    No you're good...so far! :)

Music is what makes people put their differences aside, it could be the one tool we could use to create world peace..

    sunnyB

Yes I agree that's so true.

It's good for the body and soul.

It is uplifting and soothing to the senses.

It comes in handy when you're trying to have a secret phone conversation with snoops just outside the door. Pump up the volume and watch them squirm.

Music is beneficial to people suffering from Alzheimers.

    Ann

Yes. My mom had Alzheimers and I used to play tapes, that reminded her of her past. It totally transformed her into a happy, carefree person She even remembered the lyrics and would sing along with the music.

    Great question and interesting answers.
From infancy, we are treated to music (musical mobiles over our cribs, lullabies, "iItsy Bitsy Spider" and "ABCDEFG...aka Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", for starters).  It may be that music is our first form of communication.

Cuz if u like to dance u have to play music and a party are not a party whitout music. I tink that is why music is imporant. A-and if music did´nt was played on a wedding it would be strange! ( I think...)

Music and sex are the two things that all cultures can relate to. Fairly awesome I'd say.

    nomdeplume

Music is vibration.  We can affect so many things with music.  Change our moods, heal our spirits.  I*ncrease our intelligence.  Grow our plants.  And everything else the great akaqa folks have suggested.
