The Quran is universally accepted by Muslims to be the infallible word of God as first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad by the Angel Gabriel nearly 1400 years ago. Muhammad was illiterate, so he recounted the words to his wife Khadija who wrote them down. The Arabic word Quran means 'The Recital'.
