Since Inspiron 1300 was issued about 7 years ago, which is a long time in the rapidly advancing field of laptops, it is hard to find its contemporary equivalent of Dell, except maybe in regard to the weights of the available laptops. I think that even the screen size of the 1300, which is 15.4", cannot be found today, the closest size is 15.6''. In my opinion, what should be looked for in a new laptop is a good processor that fits the buyer's needs, for instance, a 5i processor is considered strong and should suffice most people's needs, including those who look for a computer that can work good with games or programs that require a lot of hard-drive memory. Other aspects that should be considered are weight and memory size requirements of the buyer.
New Dell laptops with 15.6" screen size can be seen at http://www.dell.com/us/p/laptops#!tabId=A0A584DE&facets=55846~0~5930680&p=1&results=30
