hp office jet printer carriage jam message ?

Print heads keep slamming to one side and message says Carriage Jam. The carriage is free and there are no paper jams. Any ideas ?

Thanks - already tried all of these to no avail. The main problem seems to be the print heads slam across the print bar and jam against the lefthand side and that then gives the carriage jam error message even though it isn't jammed. Any other ideas ?
    Thanks
