    whats the best way to free up a full hard drive?

    this computer was used by a person who didnt know alot about computers and its brand new and the hard drive is totally full already, is there a way to clear it?

    Yes, delete some of the files saved to it that you will not be using.

    Yes there is a way. Are you the new owner or do you try to help?


    If you want to help ask the owner if there are parts like pictures or music he/she will have saved.


    If so, burn a DVD as data disk and move the wished files to the DVD. If needed repeat that handeling till all is saved. If its is much zip the files to let them fit on the DvD.


    Empty the trash bin.


    Check the part that are system files, memory files etc. and see that they are not extraordinary big in setting. If so correct that part. Look for screensaves and other parts that are not needed for functioning.


    Cleanup the HD


    If it is your machine and you have the install files for the system and your not interested in the files on it, format and re-install the system but first ensure that the system disks are working and ok and that you have the license numbers etc.
