How does one remedy a root jam in a tiller?

While tilling an old flower/bush bed, I got a root caught in the tiller and idt is jammed. I tried to saw with a skill saw but the blade could not reach the root. I tried to drill a lot of holes but the root is very dense and the drilling is slow. My keyhole saw and my electric jig saw is missing so they cannot be used. Suggestions?
