Should only be two bolts attaching it to the fire wall. Make sure you disconnect the battery before doing anything.

    Instructions
    1
Open the hood to access the engine compartment. Disconnect the battery terminals with a 7/16th wrench. This will prevent electrical shock.

    2
Locate the starter under the truck located between the transmission and the engine.

    3
Unbolt the two bolts holding the starter in place. There will be one on top and one on bottom.

    4
Unbolt the small wire from the stud with a socket wrench. Place the wire to the side.

    5
Unbolt the positive wire from the back of the starter with a socket wrench. Place the wire to the side.

    6
Pull the starter down. Pull out from underneath the truck.

No, make sure you disconnected the wire from it. Drop it straight down from underneath the truck. Tight quarters means you may have to move it around things to get it out.

Try this http://www.ehow.com/how_6114322_replace-starter-chevy-s10.html You have to drop the exhaust manifold.

Call a buddy. I am not a mechanic though I have changed out starters on my own vehicles. Ford puts them on the fender firewall. Much easier to get to. I've never had to change one off the backside of the engine.
