You need to gather all the information about your son. You never know the piece of information that'll crack the case. Invaluable information includes: DOB, city and state of birth, the mother's name, how you and daughter got separated, race of the child, etc.... If you are in state that allows the exchange of information, you could be in luck.
I tried unsuccessfully for over 20 years to do what you did. The last time, however, it took me a couple of months to succeed. Good luck!
