    ED: I respect your knowledge of automobiles, but I have always thought the drive wheels should be raised if towing any distance (with automatic transmission). Am I wrong?

    Flip, If your towing a short distance with a chain, as long as it's in neutral, no damage will occur. Be careful though, if the motor isn't running your power brakes and steering will be very difficult.

    Sure you can as long as you are careful to attach it properly. Myself, I prefer the tow straps, as the stretch in the strap assures a soft even pull. But also, the stretch in the strap seems to pluck a car out of a snow bank without being too brutal on these chintzy little cars they have nowadays.

    Yes! but I don't recommend  it for the reasons it is not safe and could also damage your under carraige, when pulling with a chain.
