      They should be kept for the life of the individual and probably longer. They hold  epidemiological data which could be of value to future generations.

          If u are talking about Hospital they keep records for a long long time.They put them on digital dvds they take up little space. I know i have some that have been there 4 over 10 years.Have a Great Day!!!!!!!
