    What does the saying "Thanks for the head up" mean

    Not quite what I would answer. Heads up in my understanding is bringing someone up to date . This need not be a warning eg: I will be arriving on Saturday. "Oh thanks mate for the heads up" "I just called to give you a heads up on your car repairs"
    "heads up" means a warning, like telling you be careful when a car cuts you off.
    So thanks for the heads up, means thank you for alerting me in advance.
    it could also mean stop looking down, look up for the answers
    It means, thank you for letting me know.
