Menopause Hot Flashes: They Go Away, Right?
Q: Are hot flashes just temporary? Or will I have them throughout menopause? What causes them?
A:
Hot flashes last for three to five years on the average, but in one study of Scandinavian women, 10 percent of them were flashing at the age of 70.
We don’t know for sure what causes hot flashes, but they are related to changes in a woman’s hormone levels that cause a disruption of temperature regulation in her brain. A hot flash happens when a woman’s body thinks it is too hot, and flashing is an attempt to cool her down.
