      Apple sauce with red hots is cooking on the stove. I'm blowing translucent bubbles out the second story window. It's a warm September day. Somebody is burning leaves in the back. My new red dress is hanging on a chair beside me.My dad is singing Old Shep.  (I'm 6 or 7)

            My aunt helped me fall asleep when I was 5 or 6.  That was my earliest recollection of the scent of a woman.  I thought she had a wonderful scent and that made me feel wonderful.  She's a lot older now, yet I can remember vividly the impact she had on me.
