      The document may be too large.

        No, not even a very simple excel or word document goes. When trying to add an attachment the "add a document" button doesn't even respond.

        Have you tried rebooting your computer?

        Yes I have rebooted and also tried re-installing gmail; the problem persists. I do not dare to uninstall google first because I'm afraid I will loose my contacts list and possibly earlier messages.

          In the meantime I switched to explorer and got my mail working that way. Thanks for the answers I got.
