The kids in my daycare/preschool LOVED “Are You My Mother” All of them. They’d listen to it over and over.
My favorite was When The Sky Is Like Lace. It should have gotten a Caldecott.

    Short Skirts ,by Seymore Nicks,

I studied some fictional works for a few years and found the novel "Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov to be an interesting read..one I truly enjoyed! Of the books I recall from childhood I must say that any of Dr. Suess' books would be my favorites!

I give "Oh the Places You'll Go" when I am a guest at a baby shower. My 21 year old saw the book in my gift bag the other day. "Really good book, Mom." Kinda sealed the deal that it is a good choice. My friend read it every year to her son on New Year's Eve.
    doolittle

Yes! That would be wonderful! I will read you DR Seuss! and of course anything you would like to hear as related to Doolittles over time.

I KNOW THIS MUCH IS TRUE by Wally Lamb. I've read it three going on four times. If you wait a few years between reading, you can do this.  It's a great story. I also like THE GODFATHER and THE THORNBIRDS.  Great long reads........

    itsmee

    I’ll read Wally Lamb again.
    jhharlan

Suess always reminds me of my dad who would do different voices for the characters..what a hoot! He made being a kid fun! ;)
    lindilou

He was a road musician so we saw little of him..but when he was around he was entertaining and a real sweet dude..dad!
    lindilou

He advised me against it...said it was lonely and long hours on the road and to be a trucker instead!!! But nooooo... ;D

Not because it's so well written nor a great piece, but because it is a fictional piece written about our local area of the Finger Lakes. An interesting mystery story.

    doolittle

The Finger lakes are beautiful- and fun!!

little prince,  you can find yourself and your friends,

Do you like Piro,or Miss Maples, best,?????
    Ann

    I like both.
    Ann

Pi, She was a very gifted Mystery writer.

I have ALL of Desperate Housewives on my laptop. (Wonderful Netflix)  It’s like a book but it speaks and moves and plays music. I’m afraid I’m spoiled and this may happen to a generation. In the past I read a lot of books. I also listened to about one hundred books on tape while I painted.

    jhharlan

When I was working assembly I would listen to audio books I got from the library, saved me from dying from boredom. I listen to my collection at home, too....

    The ones with BLANK PAGES!!!

    itsmee

I love those. I like my Doodle book too.

Unfortunately I cant get comfortable enough to stay put and stay focused to read anything long or complicated- I love to read but, well, maybe someday I'll be able to again.  I can read short chapters or passages but then need to stop.  But I am writing these suggestions down...so I have a list to choose from when that day comes!

    lindilou

    ...need a reader??
    lindilou

I thought you'd answer this with "Dr.Doolittle of course!" Aha! :)
