I had school phobia. Very late in life I found out that this was caused by Attention Deficit Disorder.

I got good grades. The other kids liked me. Despite this,I stayed away just as much as I could. I think true school phobia requires a qualified psychologist working with a psychiatrist. It may take medicine. It's pretty rough on little kids so I wish the parents and child the best.

I have no idea what a structural family therapist is.

They ARE USUALLY brilliant WITH KIDS..PLAY THERAPY whilst talking to the child and just getting an idea of any potential family problems!..No need to worry...a phobia is an "IRRATIONAL FEAR"....AND CAN BE RESOLVED VERY OFTEN IN A SHORT SPACE OF TIME!!...Most of us have on e phobia or another...just dont be hard on yourselves...you`ve done nothing wrong!!...glad your on to it quickly!!

    all best wishes..Millie xx

That is a serious condition. I learned that in a grad class at EMU. They said it can arise, for example, if the mother is very sick or absent , or dies. Then, the child is afraid if he/ she goes to school, Mom will never come back. Other situations cause it too. I think I had it in kindergarten. It started out ok, but then we had a really mean sub, and between that and gagging one day in class when was had our snack, I was afraid to go to school. It came up again in 4th grade b/c the teacher and many  of the students were horrible! I felt nauseous at night b/c of that  !  Then, again in Jr. High. I felt sick to my stomach and  every morning and     I couldn't eat breakfast or  lunch. So, it resulted in malnutrition leading to Mono. ---leading to other things. My parents had a remedy for school phobia. The made me go to school---and that was it. End of story

I go with what Millie111 said, that they will use play therapy and talk therapy . I think " structural family therapy " is just family therapy. You can't treat the kid ,without treating the parents and sometimes the siblings too. They are so intertwined
