    what is a tortilla filled with an onion put on the ground of a gravestone?

    I went to a small cemetary to leave flowers for about 30 headstones. I feel bad because of house construction and a new highway is on each side of the deplapadated cemetary. Looks as if it is german family plots. Very old, I noticed two flour toritillas dried around a large yellow onion? I have heard of leaving food as an offering,but not this at all.... only two headstones had it . Any help please
