Capital punishment, the death penalty, death sentence, or execution is a legal process whereby a person is put to death by the state as a punishment for a crime.

Still used in the USA (However, it is a State statute...so, not all US States have Capital Punishment)

One step further than corporal punishment.  If you receive corporal punishment you can't sit down for a while if you receive capital punishment you never sit down again.

Not quite true, you may be able to sit but definitely not stand.

Regarding stoning, normally regarded as an Islamic punishment,; there is nothing in the Koran recommending this. In fact it is Biblical, think of the man in the Book of Numbers who was found gathering wood on the Sabbath. Moses prayed to the Lord who said 'Stone him'. And so it came to pass and the Lord was pleased.
