(4x + 2 ) + (3x + 5) =
You are not able to do the calculations in parenthesis because you do not know the value of x. SO, remove the parenthesis. You CAN add 4x and 3x (7x) and you CAN add 2 + 5 (7). Your answer becomes 7x + 7 = Now, if you want to divide the whole thing by 7, you will have x + 1, but you still can't get any simpler than that because you don't have a value for x.
